A Daughter of the Soil Returns: My Official Declaration for Machakos County Woman Representative
On Sunday, surrounded by the warm embrace of my family, community elders, women’s groups, youth, local leaders, and neighbours, I stood on the grounds of Kathimani Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mua Hills, my home, to make one of the most defining announcements of my life. Before taking my message across the sub-counties, wards, and villages of Machakos, it was vital that I return to where my journey began to seek the blessings and guidance of my home community.Standing in Kathimani, I officially declared my candidacy for Woman Representative of Machakos County in the 2027 General Election.
"I have officially declared in my hometown that I will be vying for the seat of Women Representative of Machakos County as a daughter of this land of Machakos."
Leadership Rooted in Care, Action, and CommunityThis milestone was far more than a political announcement, it was a reaffirmation of my commitment to serve the place that shaped who I am.Throughout my career as a commercial pilot and through our grassroots programs, I have learned that true leadership isn't about titles or high altitude; it is about direction, accountability, and practical service on the ground.
During my address, I reflected on the distinct role women leaders play in shaping strong, resilient societies. Being a woman in leadership comes with unique responsibilities, chief among them, the expectation to lead with empathy, structure, and a deep sense of care for every household.
"There are a lot of expectations, especially being a woman. There is that expectation of being a mother. The citizens are expecting a sense of nurturing in your leadership, so let’s have that in our space."
A Call for Solidarity Among Women LeadersA core focus of my homecoming message was unity and mutual support. To every woman who carries a vision to serve, innovate, and lead in public life, my message remains clear: there is room for all of us."Please come forward. Let’s support each other. There’s space for us.
"When women support one another, entire communities thrive. By standing together, we build a legacy of leadership that creates lasting opportunities for our daughters, sons, and future generations.
Placing People and Education at the Center as we approach 2027, my priority remains clear: placing people’s practical needs, education, and economic empowerment at the absolute center of governance.
Through initiatives like Glam on Wheels (vocation and entrepreneurship training), the Captain Irene Ndanu Soccer Summit (youth development and talent nurturing across all 40 wards), and our work supporting vulnerable groups through the WORA Foundation, we have shown what intentional leadership can achieve.
Now, we take these efforts to the county scale:Education & Skills: Expanding access to practical technical training and digital literacy.
Youth & Economic Growth: Creating pathways for enterprise funding, sports mentorship, and sustainable jobs.Grassroots Care: Ensuring women, market traders, farmers, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable families receive the structured support they deserve.
I encourage every voter across Machakos County to pay close attention to candidates, hold us accountable, and evaluate us based on what we stand for and the work we deliver.
The Journey Ahead with the blessings of my elders and the overwhelming warmth of my Kathimani home, our movement moves forward across every ward in Machakos County.I invite you to join us on this journey as we build a compassionate, prosperous, and empowered Machakos, together.
